be a volunteer

Thank you for helping the Hoot!

Choose two 4-hour shifts for free entry and camping or bunk.

It greatly helps us when you work BOTH SHIFTS on the same team.

Parking volunteers report to James Williams and will be in the upper lot or the main pasture parking area. Ashokan provides bright vests for visibility and training on how to guide attendees to park most safely and efficiently.

Compost/Recycling volunteers report to Atticus Lanigan. Must be able to respond politely to questions and help people choose the correct receptacle (compost, recycling, or landfill.) Gloves and training provided.

Gate volunteers report to Danielle Pokorny and are delegated to either the red barn Main Gate table or the parking lot Upper Gate table. Must be outgoing, able to respond to questions, communicate pricing, and handle cash and card transactions using Square app on iPad. Your first shift will begin with training.

Kitchen volunteers report to Chef Bill Warnes. Friday shifts involve prep and serving for the VIP reception, Saturday & Sunday shifts support vending food on Hoot Hill. Must be able to respond to questions, serve food quickly, and handle cash or card transactions on iPad.

Kid Zone volunteers report to one of our Ashokan Education staff who will be running the area. Work includes helping to keep the area organized and tidy and assisting kids with crafting, games, etc. Must have experience with and love for kids!

Hoot Boutique volunteers report to Alexis Perry and will be in the Hoot Boutique tent selling Hoot Shirts, Ashokan items, and Performer merchandise. Must be friendly, able to respond to questions, communicate pricing, and handle cash and card transactions using Square app on iPad. Your first shift will begin with training.

Setup & Teardown volunteers report to Ruth Merenda and will be doing an assortment of tasks related to tents, signage, storage, etc. Physical strength a plus.

EMS volunteers will report to Ashokan Health & Safety Bill Brantmeyer this year. Must have experience.

Instrument Petting Zoo volunteers must be familiar with the basics of holding and playing the fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass, and percussion. Must like kids and be comfortable gently encouraging passers-by to try out the instruments. No need to coordinate a full-on jam session. This is about giving folks of all ages a chance to see what it’s like to try out the instruments in a laid-back way.
